From October 27th to October 29th the Dynamo team at the Max Planck Institute For Solar System Research gave an introductory course on dynamo physics. Eight attendees, six from the SPP DeepDyn, first heard about the convection dynamo fundamentals during the first day. On the second day, the focus was on the numerical code MagIC. After some information about the methods used in MagIC, the code was downloaded from GitHub and installed on the local computer cluster. Some test runs proved that the code was performing correctly, and the results were then visualized with MagIC’s internal python routines. A nice dinner in an Italian restaurant finished the second day. The third day started with additional MagIC simulations by the attendees. The results were the discussed in detail. The workshop finished with an overview of different recent published studies using MagIC to provide some inspiration for future work.
Thank you very much for a wonderful workshop! It has been such a pleasure to attend it, and I am truly grateful for the experience.A workshop participant
